Charging Station
Santa Monica, CA
PUBLIC WORKS / COMMERCIAL & RETAIL

This electric vehicle charging station was built as a six-car canopy structure in the parking lot between Santa Monica City Hall and the Courthouse.

The project incorporated hi-tech photovoltaic solar cells to charge city vehicles as a public demonstration project and is available to the public for free. It is anticipated that between 60,000 and 80,000 liters of gasoline will be saved, and more than 2,700 pounds of carbon monoxide emissions will be avoided because of this facility's operation. This project was completed in 1997 and won an AIA National citation award in 1996.
