This project in Indio, California involved a three phase master plan of a 60-acre infill site for 436 multifamily units and 64 single-family homes of affordable workforce housing.
The infill site was formerly a migrant housing/farm labor encampment, ridden with crime. Isolated from the surrounding community by a large wall and an ad hoc internal dirt road system, redeveloping the huge site involved reintegrating the site into the city and creating continuity between a small community scale on-site and the surrounding neighborhood. The master plan was completed in 2007.
