Ashland House Santa Monica, California

This is a renovation of  a small 1940s Douglas Aircraft worker housing in the Sunset Park neighborhood of Santa Monica, CA. It was reworked to create an urban retreat.  The modest entry expands from front to back and out to a walled garden that creates a private and peaceful oasis. The burble of a fountain masks the noise from a busy boulevard nearby while koi and turtles swim in the pond.  Internally, one side of the internal axis holds the master-bedroom suite, while the other side houses two more bedrooms and a bathroom.
