Step Up on Fifth Santa Monica, CA
RESIDENTIAL & AFFORDABLE HOUSING
This mixed-use residential building in the heart of Santa Monica was built to serve people suffering from mental illness and homelessness, offering 46 units of permanent supportive housing.
The project’s nonprofit client, Step Up on Second, has long been a presence in Santa Monica. This new five-story, 31,600 sq. ft. building on Fifth Street doubles the agency’s housing capacity, and also includes parking and a ground-floor retail space and art
gallery. The project was completed in 2009 and has since won the 2010 National AIA Institute Award in Architecture, the 2009 AIA Los Angeles Design Merit Award, the 2010 AIA Housing Awards - Specialized Housing, and the Westside Urban Forum Prize.
